Metco traction bar install

The instructions do not show an exploded diagram, so I found it helpful to assemble each side before attempting to install.  You just have to use the process of elimination.  Start by finding the nuts and washers for the u-bolts.  Next separate out the four small bolts and nuts which mount the front hangars (plus a flat washer and lockwasher for each).  The rest is easy to figure out.

Insert the main leaf hangar bolts with the head end facing the centerline and the nut end facing the outside (the supplied directions state the contrary, but installing the other way would be somewhere between difficult and impossible.

Note the Hotchkis owners:  The U bolts have to be significantly trimmed due to the lower profile of the 2-leaf Hotchkis springs (versus the 4-leaf stockers).  I used a Dremel with a heavy-duty cutoff wheel.  When I'm bored, I will go back and cut them down flush with the top of the nuts.

It is impossible to get a socket onto the u-bolt nuts, so torquing to specs is a matter of guesswork.  I just pulled on a box-end wrench as hard as I could.

Be prepared to rework the exhaust.  The pipes from the muffler to the tips have to be rebent to clear the front brackets.

So I visited the great folks at California Muffler.  Details of the install are here.
