brake pads

The Lightning front pads are from a '98 F250 Light Duty.  The rears are said to be from the Expedition.  The stock pads work okay, but will not hold up to the stresses of racing.

I am running the stock Brembo pads in the front and stock pads in the rear right now.  When they wear out, I have some Porterfield R4-S pads waiting to install.

All of the following front pad information is from "DreaminAboutL" on the NLOC boards:

"The more aggressive pads such as Hawk blacks, blue, and PF Carbon Kevlar are not generally available.  However, Porterfield can custom make an available pad in any compound.  It takes them less than a week to do so.  Custom Lightning pads in: Hawk black: ~$140; Hawk blue : ~$160; PF Carbon Kevlar: ~$230.  For custom pads: http://www.porterfield-brakes.com - (949) 548-4470 (ask for Wendy)."

DreaminAboutL's comments
Stock   "Stock pads: Very soft. Fade very easily. Quiet. Rotor friendly."
Hawk HPS HB299-F-650 "Streetable.  Should resist fading more than stock.  Minor squeal issues. Rotor friendly."
Hawk HP Plus HB299-N-650 See above.
Hawk HP Black n/a "Borderline streetable, ideally use only on the track.  Should have very good resistance to fade. Moderate squeal/grinding noise.  Sometimes these pads will squeal so loud, neighbors cars will stare, other times they will be quiet.  Mostly rotor friendly.  Don't leave brake dust on the wheels for too long (weeks), it may stain them."
Hawk HP Blue n/a "NOT streetable - track only pad. Will chew up rotors when cold (not so much when warmed up).  Poor cold grip.  Very loud squeal/grinding.  Corrosive brake dust - dust must be removed as soon as possible.  But these will have incredible stopping ability and fade resistance."
Porterfield R4-S AP702 "Fade comparable to stock (maybe worse than stock depending on how hot they get).  Quiet.  Accordingly to Porterfield these pads will also crystalize when overheated, but chucks of the pads will fall away, they will not chew up rotors."
Porterfield R4 Carbon Kevlar n/a "Comparable to Hawk Blue. (No direct experience with these pads)."
Performance Friction Carbon Metallic 0702.20 "Fade comparable to stock (maybe worse than stock depending on how hot they get).  Quiet. However, when these pads overheat, they crystalize and chew up the rotors. Very rotor unfriendly (while road racing)."
Performance Friction Z-Rated 0702.10

DreaminAboutL's recommendation: "Hawk Black. These should work very well on the track.  They may even work as a street pad.  I run these on my track car on the street and track."
